KNOWN BUT IGNORED

KNOWN BUT FORGOTEN

A rarely visited place in Moi University is the bookshop. Have you ever been to that place? What do you understand about the place?  When was your last visit?
Moi university bookshop is situated in student centre next to national bank. It was started in 1986, just after the launching of the university in 1984. It offers its services to students, staff and the surrounding community at large.

Did you know...?
"My last time to be in the bookshop was in 2012 when I joined first year", Nancy a student in the school of information sciences recalls. She had visited the place only after being given an assignment on introduction to ICTs in records and archives management. It was the only place her problem could be solved at the moment. She had browsed through the university's library in vain but there was no trace of the edition she wanted.

   An attractive place
The bookshop has well build shelves that allows the customers to browse through the shelves without having to move a single book. The passageways are spacious that the customers are able to find their way all through with no congestion. A wheel chair can pass easily thus giving room for handicapped to browse amply.
It is flooded with books covering all fields of study ranging from philosophy, fiction, general knowledge, technology and communication, religion, accounting, commerce and other more. Apart from books it also has stationeries, invitation cards and general office inventories.

The bookshop in the digital era
With the invention of ICT, Moi university bookshop was not left behind, it has adopted it. The bookshop has several desktop computers networked together. The staff has designed a database that has all the items in the bookshop with their buying and selling prices. “So far we have got a database and we look forward to have an electronic catalogue and a website to aid in delivering quality services to our clients”, Mr. Wanjala an attendant at the workshop said during my visit to the place.
After my visit to the bookshop I promised to be a frequent visitor since it is really a place to build knowledge. The staff are welcoming and I got impressed so shall you when you visit.
