“Your health is your wealth,” Ms Tietie MUSO health director
at Moi University said during a seminar held today at the student center conference
hall. She had invited doctor Oganda from the school of health sciences to
educate the students on fungal, yeast and bacterial infections in human
sexuality.
Dr. Oganda said that burning sensation in the inner
reproductive organs is as a result of fungal or yeast infections. Major
transmission mode is unprotected sexual intercourse. Other forms could be
unhygienic washrooms which may spread infections from a carrier who after using
the facility goes without disinfecting the place.
Considering the state of ablutions in Moi University
infections are at a high rate since the facilities used for flashing waste
products are worn out. Waste substances accumulate on the sit up bowels as
several users go without flashing the waste.
The most notorious hostel which such challenges is hostel J.
the odor around the hostel’s surrounding portrays the state of hygiene in the
place. Cleaners have a problem with this situation, at times they are forced to
write notices on the doors hoping that the situation will improve.
Personal hygiene also need to be considered. Bathing with plenty water will help reduce the rate of infection. Dr. Oganda advised the students to report any cases of unhygienic conditions within campus so that the best action is taken immediately for better health sanitation.
The state of public facilities is pathetic as hygiene is the last priority, students are at risk health should be prioritized in the first place before anything else
