Being an information scientist, one is able to understand
all aspects of life through different dimensions. Preservation, repackaging,
conversion, storage, retrieval, classification, among others are what
information professionals revolve around.
Moi University, School of information sciences is a centre
of excellence and a point of attraction. Most students in Moi University envy
this school. It is a school that offers quality training ever. If you are in
this school then you are lucky because you are better placed.
It has been a culture for most tertiary level colleges to
have an unscrupulous and abhorrent act of issuing fake certificates. The quest
for higher education and shrinking job opportunities has driven unscrupulous
people to devise devious schemes to get rich quickly. They prefer buying
certificates than undergoing the whole training. This has been seen through the
half-baked trainees who have flooded the job market claiming to be
professionals but have no clue about the profession.
Whenever you go to the library, you won’t miss to brush
shoulders with an information scientist. It is like they reside there. They
can’t survive without having a look at the newspaper to see what is new or
coding a program or two. Assignments are part of their life. Research is their
great friend and practical oriented. You could think they are preparing
themselves for the life after campus. If you were among those who were told
that Moi University main campus is a place to joy ride then am sure you got
surprised when you got here.
An information scientist always has a great friend called
laptop, whenever they operate without that then they will be in a death pit,
not knowing forward or backward. I got surprised the other day when I heard a
student from school of education asking how he could align his work using
Microsoft word document. For an information scientist, that is a simple
exercise which requires no reasoning. Putting text into power point is a
frequent operation of an information scientist but a rare one to most other professionals.
The field of information sciences is what will take people
to the next level in the era of digitization. Be on the move to ensure that
Kenya accomplishes vision 2030. Technology has to be embraced in every corner
of the republic. There will be no vocabulary like marginalized area come 2030.
Am proud and contented to be an information scientist, I know I am not in the wrong field, my hobbies and talents are being explored here
